Weight Loss

Unintentional weight loss generally indicates a medical problem.

While there are numerous causes for weight loss, here are some of the common ones:

Endocrine Causes:

  •  Uncontrolled Diabetes especially Type 1 Diabetes.

  •  Overactive thyroid also known as hyperthyroidism.

  •  Adrenal insufficiency.

Non-Endocrine Causes:

  •  Cancer

  •  Chronic infections such as Tuberculosis, Chronic fungal infections, HIV infection.

  •  Mal-absorption due to gastrointestinal causes.

  •  Eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa.

Endocrine causes are often overlooked while a patient undergoes an extensive work-up for cancer.
